Media giants Sky have announced plans to launch their next TV service called “Sky Q” in early 2016.
With so many additional features, including ultra HD streaming capabilities to up to 5 devices (including your main screen), we decided to take a closer look at the new service, and see why Sky are extremely excited to get it out on the market so soon after the Christmas period.
A Premium TV Service
Sky have described the Sky Q service as the premium option for watching TV which will heavily complement the existing services that the company provides to it’s customers, integrating with their existing satellite dishes and replacing the Sky +HD box with an brand new, ultra HD capable device.
Coming with a 2 Terabyte hard drive built into the new Sky Q box, users will be able to record and save up to 4 simultaneous programs- perfect for those people who have multiple shows on the go! You’ll never have to miss an episode ever again!
A Brand New Interface and Controller
Although many TV services have an incredibly visual layout for their interface, Sky have gone one step further and made it ultimately more user friendly, with easily navigable menus which give quicker access to a users recordings and most watched programmes.
The new box also means that there is a brand new controller to contend with, and it’s quite an overhaul of the iconic Sky controller that we are all used to.
The most noticeable change is the addition of a trackpad near the top and in the middle of the controllers. This makes navigating through the many menus of the interface quick and efficient and relatively familiar- much like how your tablet and smart phones work!
The Sky button will also now take you directly to your recorded media rather than taking you to the home screen, removing unnecessary steps for you to get watching your favourite shows as soon as possible.
If you’re like us, you’ll also be glad to head that the remote also has a beeper in that allows you to locate it if it has been misplaced. Simply press the Q button on the Sky Q box and your remote will begin to beep!
This does make hiding the remote from your family a little more difficult though!
Stream on Five Screens
The thing that we love the most about the new Sky Q box is the streaming capability upgrade.
Through the use of a new device called the Sky Q Mini, you can connect your Sky Q to two other TVs in your home and an additional 2 tablets through the Sky Q app. This means you can stream different TV shows to 5 screens in your home!
