With the much anticipated John Lewis Christmas advert dropping last week, we’re already impatiently waiting for everyone else to follow suit.
The battle of the Christmas adverts has become a massive thing in the last couple of years; almost rivalling the competition that happens for the Christmas number one. With all the huge companies making it their mission to be bigger and better than ever, we’re excited to see what everyone comes up with this year.
As we wait for all the adverts to appear, we’ve decided to take a look back at some of our all time favourites. Which do you rate the most?
Coca Cola – Holiday’s Are Coming – 1995
This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the much loved coca cola Christmas advert. First appearing on our screens back in 2005, the advert has become synonymous with the start of the festive period. When the advert first appears on the TV, we know that Christmas has officially arrived!
The advert always shows people getting excited at the arrival of brightly lit coco cola truck – as it drives through the streets! (Something which now happens in real life too)!!
John Lewis – The Bear and the Hare – 2013
Looking out for the John Lewis Christmas advert has become something that happens every year, and they never disappoint! We still look back fondly at their 2013 advert – it’s probably our favourite of the last few years. It tells the animated story of a Bear and his good friend the Hare. The Hare introduces Christmas to his friend – as the bear has never celebrated it before.
Lily Allen covered Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ for the soundtrack – bringing it back to the UK charts (and at number one), 9 years after release.
Sainsbury’s – Christmas is for Sharing – 2014
Albeit making a controversial choice, Sainsbury’s stole the hearts of a large amount of the UK with their Christmas advert last year – which depicted a scene from WW1. Using the famous tale of the truce that happened on Christmas day (soldiers from both sides coming together for the day), the advert shows the German and British soldiers sing together, sharing drinks and having a game of football. Once the day ends, they go back to their opposite sides of the trenches.
It’s both heart-warming and sad – we definitely shed a tear.
