Samsung have always been at the forefront of technological development, but 2018 was an especially promising year for the tech giant. Samsung improved their 4K QLED line-up, and they were also featured in TIME magazine for creating one of the best inventions of 2018 – a TV that blends into your wall.
They’re also very keen to prove that they’re not about to release their lead in 2019. In this article, we will discuss the developments Samsung currently have in the pipeline, and why you should be getting excited about them.
MODULAR SCREENS AND MICRO LEDs
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), plays host to hundreds of innovations each year. Some of these designs will make it onto the public market, but a few will change modern society.
At CES 2019, Samsung presented their magnificent combination of micro LEDs with modular screen technology. These mLEDs offer improved contrast, response time and energy efficiency, but they also support modular screen technology.
Modular screens are especially useful, because they signal the future of TV repairs. Instead of having to replace an entire screen when a small section is broken, technicians will be able to easily exchange small sections of the screen to get the TV back into working order. This will save time, energy and resources.
CONNECTIVITY
One of the most exciting aspects of Samsung’s technology – and a promising reason for consumers to really buy into a range of Samsung products – is their dedication to providing improved connectivity between their devices. Whether you are surfing the net on a Samsung phone or watching Prime TV on an Amazon Firestick, Samsung are working hard to ensure that you can connect it all up.
SideSync and Quick Connect are two features, which seem to have very similar functions, but we’ll explain the differences for you here:
SideSync
By downloading the SideSync app, you can share screens and data between a PC and a Samsung mobile device. This can be useful for transmitting alarms, PDFs and images shared on either device, but it is especially handy in the workplace for business presentations.
One of the most useful aspects of this feature for home use is its ability to send and receive text messages from your PC. For most of us, typing on a desktop is a lot quicker than punching away on a tiny phone keyboard, so this is a very convenient fix for communicating from the home.
Quick Connect
This feature allows you to use Bluetooth or WI-FI to find and connect mobile devices, Smart TVs, and streaming devices like Chromecast and the Amazon Fire Stick. It is very similar to SideSync but can connect more devices.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Samsung are incredibly inspired by the implications of AI, which is why they have been developing a number of programmes that they hope will enhance our lives.
Of their many AI inventions showcased in 2019 so far, Girin could be the most useful – a monitor which automatically corrects its angle to encourage the user to correct their posture. Girin could be very beneficial in preventing office workers from developing debilitating back problems. Of similar benefit is SnailSound, which was also created with health in mind; SnailSound could be a cheaper alternative to hearing aids in the future.
INTRODUCING 5G
5G is definitely the future, and it’s not too far off. Everyone wants to be the first to produce 5G compatible systems and devices for stronger, faster WI-FI experiences, but Samsung might be leading the pack; they are purportedly already creating apps and devices that will support the 5G wave.
Samsung believe that they already hold key patents that will be necessary for 5G products, and we’re sure that they will be keen to keep their lead in the 5G race. We’re very excited to see how much further the competition might push their innovative streak.
No one can argue that Samsung aren’t pioneering technology in 2019. We wonder how long it will be before we can offer you cheap TVs supporting 5G connections in the home, but we are confident it will be soon. With so many interesting ideas, we’re sure that Samsung will continue to lead the way for years to come in terms of technological innovation.
