At Cheap TVs we don’t just provide you with the highest quality cheap LED TVs to give you a platform from which to enjoy your bingeing sessions, we like to provide you with ways to get the most out of your viewing experience. Have you ever pondered how to get your potentially wall mounted TV to actually live on your wall? Seems a bit daunting doesn’t it… well it needn’t be!
Firstly, don’t just go drilling holes willy-nilly; it will leave your room with a Swiss cheese effect and could potentially lead to the little matter of an electrocution. So, yeah, don’t do that. So, where to start? Firstly, grab yourself a stud finder.
The Stud Finder
Make sure your stud finder is calibrated as this will obviously improve the accuracy of your search. Once this is done, when you place the finder on the wall, make sure you go slowly so as to further improve the accuracy. Check repeatedly so as to avoid the aforementioned Swiss cheese/electrocution-gate. We recommend you find 3 studs, making sure you use a tape measure to guarantee the distance from them is equal. This will help you avoid false positives.
Remember Fire Blocks
Fire blocks are the extra blocks of wood running horizontally between stud bays, so as such may be read as studs by your stud finder. Make sure you run your stud finder up and down as well as left and right to guarantee that you haven’t just found a fire block and that you are dealing with a stud. Fire blocks can make fishing the wires down the wall incredibly awkward when lowering them, so definitely try to avoid setting up above them!
Check, Double Check, Triple Check
Remember what your father / TV taught you; measure twice, cut once. This applies to drilling holes through your gorgeously painted or wall papered walls. As well as fire blocks, the stud finder may read seams in drywall as a stud so make sure once you’ve marked the hole that wish to make a permanent feature to your abode, that you check a little to the left and right to make sure that you aren’t just clipping a stud or, much worse, heading for the now famed electrocution-gate.
Hide Your Wires
If you’re going through the effort of giving your TV a permanent, gravity defying location in your house, you should probably hide the wires… Why ruin the sleek look you’ve achieved? One great way of achieving this is by implementing an IWPE (in-wall power extension) or power bridge kit. These come with what you need to give your wires the tidy appearance your room and set-up deserves. Don’t simply drop an extension cord into your wall as this is illegal and a fire risk. The power bridge will enable you to create an outlet and inlet for the wires to go in and out of the wall to put the non-literal icing on your swish new set up.
We hope this has been some help towards helping you mount your set-up in your desired location but remember if you’re not feeling confident, then don’t risk injuring yourself… just hire a professional. That’s what they’re there for!
A wall-mounted TV set up is the perfect complement to the tech lovers’ room, providing a sleek finish and helping to tidy away those lingering wires that can make an otherwise spotless room appear untidy.
