2014 was a pretty great year for video games; alongside the excruciatingly terrifying (but wonderful) Alien: Isolation we also got treats like Dragon Age Inquisition and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor for fantasy fans, Destiny, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Far Cry 4 for shooter aficionados and much, much more. So what does 2015 hold in store for gamers?
The Order: 1886
Exclusive to the Playstation 4 and due for release in February, The Order:1886 is set in an alternative Victorian-era London where humankind is locked in a battle against half-breed bestial monsters. With a stunning steampunk aesthetic, action-packed gameplay and inventive storytelling, this is an early title to look out for.
Batman : Arkham Knight
Coming to next-gen consoles and PC, this is the fourth main game of the Batman: Arkham series, set one year after the events of Batman: Arkham City, with the Batman facing down enemies including Two-Face and the Scarecrow. Originally scheduled for a 2014 release, the game was put back and is now due to come out in June 2015. It’s a game that allows you to be the Batman – it’s bound to be popular!
Halo 5: Guardians
Exclusive to the Xbox One, waiting for the latest in the Halo franchise will no doubt have a fair few gamers on tenterhooks. It’s expected to be released later in the year, potentially around the Autumn, in conjunction with a Steven Spielberg-produced TV series.
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture
Another Playstation exclusive, this eerie game is a spiritual successor to the experimental Dear Esther produced by the same developers. Set in a Shropshire village during the apocalypse, the game is based around six characters telling their own stories. Whilst it will be heavily story driven, however, it does look set to have more interactive gameplay than Dear Esther, and players will be able to influence events. Just as Dear Esther and similar titles began to redefine what a video game really is, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture looks set to be one of the most unique titles of 2015.
