We live for television. Whether it’s settling in for a massive bingeing session or providing you with the finest discount Sony 3D TVs; we love it all! So when we heard about the new Dad’s Army film poster being released, we got a little bit excited. So much so in fact that we decided to dig out our old VHSs and remind ourselves about why we love the British comedy classic.
To celebrate the legendary sitcom, we thought we’d provide you with some of the little known facts surrounding the TV show and give you an opportunity to revisit the BBC’s loveable wing of the Home Guard:
1) Clive Dunn’s Musical Career
2) Dad’s Army vs Mortal Combat
When Mortal Kombat was released on the Sega Megadrive, the creators decided to give a tip of the peaked officer cap to the British sitcom. When you inserted the cheat “Dad’s Code”, the character names changed to that of the Dad’s Army cast! Ever wanted to watch Godfrey vs Uncle Arthur? Well once upon a time, you could.
3) Replacing the News!
When the news was hit with a power cut in 2000 the Beeb went into crisis mode, replacing it with an episode of Dad’s Army! It’s nice to know that such a classic show still has relevancy beyond UK Gold and Sunday afternoon reruns, isn’t it?
4) Uncle Sam’s Army
5) Who Was Pike’s Father?
Whilst it was never committed to script, the writers later confirmed that it was in fact Sgt. Wilson who was Pike’s father! For an additional bit of trivia, John Le Mesurier, who played Sgt. Wilson, has since had two BBC4 films made about his marriages, titled Hancock and Joan(2008) and Hattie (2011).
