Once the big day of Christmas begins to fade and the realisation that summer and spring are still a long way to go, it can feel a little dreary. The weather is still bleak, the nights are still dark and making money stretch is essential. Most people are just trying to make it through to payday, and the excitement of the festivities is long becoming a memory.
So, how can you make the most of these long nights? Something that won’t cost money, the entire family can enjoy and is a distraction from the year’s longest month. Well, we have the answer…
MOVIE NIGHTS!
Although you may have watched every Christmas movie that Netflix and Prime Video had to offer in December, January is the best time to settle into those feel-good movies that will make you laugh, cry, and escape the January blues. First, however, having the right set-up is essential. So as a leading provider of cheap TVs, we will help make sure that your set-up helps to provide the best movie experience, close to cinematic as possible.
Set the Mood with Ambient Lighting
Ambient lighting for movie nights is essential. You want to feel drawn in by the film to help you escape from your surroundings. This must be done just right, and the placement of your mood lighting mustn’t interfere with the viewability of your screen. Whilst you may have a warm light in your side lamp, depending on the genre of film you may be watching, it may not offer the best option for immersive movie nights. Side lights are perfect for social and casual watching, but when it comes to movie nights, they can allow for distractions. LED strip lights are a great way to offer mood lighting to your movie nights, especially if you get ones that collaborate with your smart TV. Some can plug directly into your TV and reflect light showcased by the onscreen image.
Although setting the mood can be done with LED strip lighting and side lamps, nothing quite beats the ambience from an Ambilight TV from Philips. These TVs are the only TVs with ambient lights built in, which can be seen among our range of cheap Philips TVs. Moreover, within the back of the devices is an array of LED lights, which correspond with the onscreen picture to display coloured lights related to the production. This function allows full immersive viewing and the best cinematic experience at home.
The Best Positioning for Your TV
We have all heard the warnings about sitting too close to the TV. Whilst there is no real danger of being too close to your TV, to get the best viewing experience, there is a minimum distance for each TV. Each device is different, and the kind of TV you have will require various positions for optimal viewing. Although we can offer advice on the positioning, researching your make and model will provide you with the exact needs of your TV.
In the years gone by, watching anything larger than a 55-inch TV, sitting too close, could pixelate the screen, lowering the quality of the picture. However, with the introduction of the likes of our cheap 4K TVs and 8K quality, this has been significantly reduced but not eliminated. To help make sure you have your TV in the best position, we have a list of minimum distances.
4K/8K TVS
- 55-inch – 1-meter minimum distance
- 65-inch – 1.2 meters minimum distance
- 75-inch – 1.4 meters minimum distance
- 85-inch – 1.6 meters minimum distance
For High Definition TVs
- 32 inch 1.2 meters minimum distance
- 40 inch 1.5 meters minimum distance
- 46 inch 1.7 meters minimum distance
- 50 inch 1.9 meters minimum distance
- 55 inch 2.1 meters minimum distance
- 60 inch 2.3 meters minimum distance
Making sure your TV is a minimum of this difference will offer you the best viewing quality of your movie.
For the optimum height of your TV, the general rule is that your eyes should fall one-third of the way down from the top of your TV screen. However, this may be impractical within your home, especially if you plan to mount the device on the wall to minimise space. So, if you plan on doing this with your TV, be sure not to place it too high up on the wall. Avoid the usual error of TV mounting by placing it above the fire on a chimney breast. Although this may be the preferred and only available space, it can cause you to crane your neck to see it clearly and is not ideal for film nights.
It Sounds Like the Perfect Night In
Getting a TV with the best audio for movies and cinematic experience has never been easier. We truly are in the golden age of TV, so much so that the improvements and developments within newer TVs are more based on the interface than the quality of the experience. Take the likes of our cheap smart TVs with 4K clarity from Sony or Samsung; each offers incredible audio technology to provide life-like sounds and experience.
Sony Bravia TVs use Dolby Atmos audio technology, and the speakers have been innovatively integrated within the screen’s surface as opposed to the TV’s frame, as it has always been known. This feature allows you to experience the sound where it happens on the screen. Audio like this will make you feel entirely transported into the scene and like part of the action. This, paired with Dolby Atmos, allows for some of the best audio available in even the cheapest Sony TVs.
If you would prefer one of our cheap Samsung TVs, then don’t worry. They also have incredible audio that will offer some of the best movie nights. Unlike other brands that use Dolby, Samsung is utilising its in-house development with its Adaptive Sound+ technology. This feature auto-calibrates your TV’s audio output to fit your environment. So you can enjoy sound that is optimised for your surroundings! So, whether in a large room that echos, or a modest space, your sound will be crystal clear thanks to its AI technology.
