If you’ve bought a new TV for the new year, then your next consideration should be what else you need to create your home cinema room. We’ve got tips on all the extra things you might want to add to your new cheap TV to enhance your viewing experience.
Super Speed HDMI Cable
You never know when you might need a super speed HDMI cable – perfect for connecting a computer or laptop to a television, an HDMI cable will enable you to use your television like a computer screen. This means that you’ll be able to watch anything you are playing on your computer on your television, from streams to homemade films that you have saved on your laptop.
You won’t need an HDMI cable for most streaming services if you’ve invested in one of our cheap smart TVs, as the benefit of a smart TV is that many of the streaming services are installable as apps so that you can access them quickly using only your TV and the remote. You may still need to use an HDMI cable if one of your favourite streaming services isn’t available as an app on the TV’s store, however.
If you want to avoid dragging your laptop to the television just to stream the occasional show, then you may want to consider an alternative, such as a media player.
Media Players
A box or stick, such as the Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV box, Roku, or the Chromecast may be able to support the app that you’re looking for even if your chosen TV doesn’t. This means that you won’t have to check that your new TV supports all of your favourite apps if you don’t mind adding an extra media player to your set-up.
Swivel Wall Brackets
If you’re striving for a minimalist aesthetic, then you should purchase a swivel wall bracket to lift your television off the floor and free up some floor space. If you’re buying a wall bracket for your television, then you may want to consider how you are going to keep any dangling cables looking tidy. You may want to use a cable tidy snake or fit a cable cover to the wall.
TV Stand
If you own a lot of consoles then you might want a TV stand rather than a wall bracket – a TV stand is certainly easier to install and gives you a place to keep your collection, but it is also going to give you more chores in the long run as a TV stand is going to pick up dust, whereas a wall bracket won’t require nearly as much routine cleaning.
Surround Sound
If you own a Blu-Ray collection, then you’re the type of person who would benefit from investing in a decent surround sound system. When you’re watching a film, you want to enjoy the best picture quality, so why let your viewing experience be held back by an average sound experience?
If you’re creating a high-end home cinema experience, then a surround sound system is a must.
Gaming Consoles
If you own a television and have friends, then you should seriously consider picking up a Nintendo Wii. This console is now unsupported by the manufacturers and no new games are in production for this console, but due to the Wii’s huge popularity there are already plenty of games for you to choose from, and the console and games can be found quite cheaply in many second-hand stores across the country.
If you ever feel like the mood is dwindling at your party, you’ll be thankful for the TV, the Wii and a few party games.
Cable Ties
Keep those cables tidy and out of the way by tying them together.
Microfibre Rag
The best way to keep your new TV looking new is to keep it clean, and the best way to keep it clean is by using a microfibre rag to get rid of all the dust and dirt that naturally accumulates around items with a static charge over time. Using a microfibre rag will help to prevent against you accidentally scratching your screen whilst you clean, too.
Ethernet Cable
It’s not always feasible, but if your television is close to the internet router then you might want to connect it to the internet using ethernet rather than relying on the wi-fi. This will provide a more secure connection that should reduce buffering and improve the overall quality of any internet-related activity you do on your television.
