Are you a horror movie fan? We love a good scary film here at Cheap TVs. We’re talking about hide your face behind a pillow or jump up and run out of the room scary. We’re talking about those movies that mean you have to sleep with your light on and one eye open when you go to bed.
Know which ones we mean? Curious? Here are our pick of the scariest movies ever made.
Psycho (1960)
This psychological thriller is still considered as being one of the best thrillers ever produced, even though it was released over 50 years ago.
The film is based on an encounter between a secretary who has ended up in a secluded motel after stealing money from her employer, and the disturbed manager of the hotel – Norman Bates. After the secretary is murdered by what looks like a strange woman, her family are determined to solve what happens – even though Norman is blocking them at every step. The shower scene is a horror movie classic!
Considered as being one of Hitchcock’s most well known film, his films are renowned for leaving his audience anxious and uncertain.
The Exorcist (1973)
Whilst there might have been scarier movies since, The Exorcist was considered the scariest film ever made back in the 70s when it was first released. In fact, it’s still regarded as one of the greatest horror films ever produced.
The film is adapted from a book and deals with a demonic possession of a 12 year old girl, and a mother’s determination to turn her back through an exorcism performed by two priests. The spinning head scene is still referred to as being horrifying, and some cinemas found the film so scary – they handed out sick bags as people entered.
The Grudge (2004)
Remakes of films are never brilliant, but this remake of a Japanese horror film still managed to scare us right out of our seats. The film stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (or Buffy for most people), and is about a curse that is passed from victim to victim. The curse is born when someone dies in the grip of a powerful rage or sorrow, and those who encounter this curse all die.
It’s definitely not one to watch on your own, we think we’re going to have nightmares by just talking about the film – especially remembering the part where the scary Kayako is climbing down the stairs. Eeek.
We hope that you’ve enjoyed reminiscing about these truly terrifying movies, maybe it’s time for the ultimate movie marathon? Keep checking back for part 2!
