With 4K content becoming more and more popular, cables which can deliver such a high quality image are well in demand.
However, if you aren’t well versed in the technology behind these cables, it can be quite difficult to differentiate which cables can display 4K content, and which are meant for use with standard HD devices.
Thanks to HDMI Licensing, the organisation who are fully responsible for overseeing the standard of HDMI cables, this confusion may be a thing of the past. No matter if you have an expensive cinema style set up or a cheap TV capable of a 4K display, they have developed a simple way of differentiating the 4K capable cables from the rest.
How Does It Work?
HDMI Licensing have developed a unique certification which give cables which are able to stream 4K content a noticeable sticker on their packaging to alert consumers to their ability.
This is expected to give manufacturers of HDMI cables a standard to work to when producing cables which can transmit ultra HD content in order to ensure that consumers are purchasing cables which deliver what they promise.
Any cable which passes the test will be fully certified that it can transmit a 4K picture through the appropriate 4K ready device.
The Testing Process
Each cable will undergo a series of tests at the HDMI Licensing authorised testing centre to prove that they are capable of supporting the HDMI 2.0 standard of transmitting 18 gigabits of data per second (Gbps).
All cables will also need to provide proof that they adhere to the minimum standard of interference with mobile devices.
Once cables have proved themselves, manufacturers will then be able to sticker their packaging with an official “Premium HDMI Cables Certification Program” label to set them apart from other cables which don’t meet the ultra HD standards.
Mobile App
If you are still unsure if the cable you are looking at is capable of transmitting a 4K picture, HDMI Licensing has also created a very handy app which allows consumers to scan the label on the HDMI cables to see if they are really Premium HDMI certified and confirm the authenticity of the packaging’s claim.
So, as we journey into the age of 4K, make sure that you are getting the most out of your HDMI cable by searching for a certified 4K ready HDMI cable!
