Winter is Coming: Five Shows to Keep you Glued to the TV This Winter

Yes we know, it’s still September, but as each day passes, the warmth of the summer’s sun leaves us, making the outdoors seem a cold and harsh place, while making indoors feel like the ideal place to be. Soon, when winter does arrive, you’ll find yourself running back from the shops to escape the winds and diving under the nearest set of blankets and sticking on the TV to take your mind off your frozen body.

And all is not lost, because once you see what’s going to be hitting your boxes this winter, you’ll want to stay inside until the snows melt and summer comes round again!

So, in light of all this, and because we specialise in some of the best cheap LED TVS around, we thought we’d share five of the TV shows coming to screens this winter that will most certainly make you forget winter’s icy embrace.

Doctor Who

Whether you love it or hate it, Doctor Who is simply a classic. However, this new doctor, played by Scottish lovely, Peter Capaldi, is by far our favourite. He’s old, he’s grumpy, and he’s full of sassy comebacks that could make a Dalek blush and for us, that’s exactly what the doctor should be. The new series premiers on September 19th and also sees the return of the newest companion, Clara. The trailer looks epic and luckily, there isn’t long to wait for this one!

Sherlock

Another grumpy hero, although this one is slightly different as there’s no aliens keeping him down, just genius level criminals. The Sherlock Christmas special won’t be like any other Christmas special we’ve seen recently, as it won’t be taking place in canon with the rest of the series. This one takes place in Victorian-era London with the characters getting a make-over so that they fit the design. That means we get dreary, industrial London; a mustachioed Watson; and Sherlock Holmes fully clad in his classic attire, deer stalker and all.

Jekyll & Hyde

For all you literature fans out there, ITV have taken on one of the biggest classics in the world of books and turned it into a ten part mini-series starring the likes of Richard E. Grant. The series is set in 1930’s London and focuses on the grandson of the doctor from the original novel, Robert Jekyll. The story follows Robert’s quest to find out about his true identity, something which everyone around him has been keeping a secret for his safety. This one is sure to be dark and gritty, if the source material is anything to go by, so this really is a must watch!

Downton Abbey

This month, the cream of British television makes a return for one last series so it might be best to get the hankies ready in preparation. We don’t know much regarding the storyline but from what we have seen, it’s going to be very exciting!

Danger Mouse

After two years of being in development, Danger Mouse finally returns to our screens this month on CBBC. Boasting an all-star cast, with the likes of: Alexander Armstrong (Pointless), Kevin Eldon (Hyperdrive), Dave Lamb (Come Dine with Me), John Oliver (Last Week Tonight), and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones). With a cast like this, we know this revival is going to be something special; especially considering the animation style is incredibly similar to the original 80’s show.

We told you this winter was going to be incredible for TV, so be sure you wrap up warm in front of the TV and catch these great shows!
