When you are getting together with your best girl friends, there’s nothing better than having a great girl power movie marathon.
At Cheap TVs, we love great movies, and here we’re going to show you some of the best girl power movies of all time.
Mean Girls (2004)
This classic girl power movie, starring Lindsay Lohan and Tina Fey, recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary, and is certainly a favourite when it comes to girly nights in.
This film presents Cady, an outsider, who braves the jungle-like environment that is high school for the very first time. After entering the clique-oriented school, Cady soon finds herself hanging out with ‘The Plastics’ the meanest and the most popular girls in school.
As one of the most quotable films of all time, this movie is a definite must-see for all girls. Its relatable humour has made it a solid favourite across generations, and if you haven’t seen it already it is definitely a movie that’s not to be missed.
Legally Blonde (2001)
Legally Blonde is the movie that destroyed the ‘dumb blonde’ stereotype, and taught girls around the world that they could achieve anything they wanted if they worked hard enough.
Reese Witherspoon stars as Elle Woods, a sorority president and homecoming queen who just wants to have fun – that is, until the love of her life dumps her. Determined to win him back and prove herself to be a ‘serious’ person, Elle embarks on a quest to attend Harvard Law School and take the legal world by storm.
Although at times it is a little unbelievable (study montage, anyone?), Legally Blonde is the ultimate girl power movie that you can’t help but love.
The Princess Diaries (2001)
Every girl dreams of being a princess, but what would happen if the fairytale came true? Well, in Disney’s film adaptation of the Meg Cabot novels of the same name, you’ll soon find out.
Mia Thermopolis, played by Anne Hathaway, struggles through high school feeling invisible, however when her long-lost grandmother shows up and tells her who she really is, her life changes forever. However, the fairytale is not all it’s cracked up to be, and Mia is faced with having to make the most important decision of her life.
The Princess Diaries is a typical Disney film, but for a girly night in it’s a perfect movie. If you’re having a movie marathon, why not follow it up with The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement?
Charlie’s Angels (2000)
If you want to feel some serious girl power, then Charlie’s Angels is definitely for you. Inspired by the 1970’s series of the same name, this is a perfect movie for a girly night in.
Starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, the ‘Angels’ are three tough women who work as private investigators for the unseen Charlie. Using martial arts, tech skills and sex appeal, these amazing women show the world that they are capable of anything.
Charlie’s Angels is the perfect film for girl’s who need a bit of an ego boost and shows that it’s not just up to the men to show the bad guys who’s boss.
Clueless (1995)
This American comedy – inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma – is a classic when it comes to girl power movies.
Clueless follows the story of Cher, a Beverley Hills teenager who juggles high school popularity with her urge to makeover anyone she deems as ‘clueless’. As well as giving a small insight into the charmed life that Californian teenagers supposedly lead, this movie is also an excellent 90’s throwback and offers a slight change of pace from the chick flicks of today.
