Improving Your Viewing Experience: Getting the Most Out of Your TV

When you purchased your new TV, did you set it up correctly? You’re probably giving the screen a blank look at the moment right? Don’t worry about it. Many people, who purchase a new TV, have no idea that they have the power to improve sound and picture quality at the click of a button.

You spend a lot of time sitting in front of your TV, yet you’re probably not using it to its full potential. It may seem intimidating, but it’s actually pretty easy to make the changes yourself.

As a company who specialises in cheap TVs, we want our customers to get the best out of theirs. To achieve this, we have put together a handy guide to aid you in getting the perfect TV setup.

So what are you waiting for? Pick up your TV remote and start exploring the hidden features of your TV so that you can improve your viewing experience. Although there are a wide range of different TVs, you should find that quite a lot of them have a similar setup for altering settings.

Check the way your sources are set up

There are a number of external issues that could be affecting your TVs performance. One of the main issues that people encounter is the settings being used for external sources such as Sky or Blu-ray players.

For those with Sky/Freeview HD receivers, you should set your HD resolution to automatic instead of the default 1080i. This means that it will output HD in HD and anything that is standard definition in standard definition – leaving the upscaling to your TV.

Why is this a good idea? Well, your TV can generally do a much better upscaling job than your TV receiver box.

Adjust your backlight and brightness

A lot of people are guilty of having the backlight settings on their TV, extremely, painfully, high. This is something that is only suited for TVs in a retail environment, where the idea is to sell the TVs. In a normal domestic home, you are not receiving any benefits from this.

If you want a picture that is naturally coloured, with perfect contrast, then you will need to adapt your settings.

Accessing the settings for brightness and backlight, you should reduce it to between 40%-50% of their value. You will see the difference immediately.

If you are watching in a pretty bright environment, you might want to adjust the backlight up a little. However, doing it too much will diminish the quality of your picture.

Don’t make your picture too sharp

A lot of people are under the impression that to achieve the best results out of their TV, they must adjust the sharpness level to really high. Unfortunately, this isn’t true and as a result, people are missing out on improving their picture quality.

One of the most significant problems is that too much sharpness can cause pictures to look noisy and gritty. Images may also look forced, with edges taking on a ‘glowy’ look.

To avoid this; put in a blu-ray DVD and adjust the sharpness until you get to the point where sharpness starts to merge into the noise.

Now that you’re basically an expert in getting the best out of your TV, you might want to consider investing in a brand new one.
