2014 was a fantastic year for TV, bringing us a wealth of new and exciting shows, as well as some unforgettable new seasons from returning favourites. With the New Year now in full swing, now is the perfect time to discover a new series to watch. So here we take a look at some of the most hotly anticipated new TV series set to air in 2015 which are well worth keeping an eye out for.
Fortitude
This new 12 part mystery series from Sky features a pretty amazing cast, including the likes of Sir Michael Gambon and Christopher Eccelston. The series is set in an isolated arctic community, and its plotline centres around the mysterious death of one of its members; an event which turns this once sleepy community on its head. The series is a must watch for its fantastic cast alone, and will be debuting here in the UK on the 29th January.
Better Call Saul
Another highly anticipated series set for release in early 2015 is the comedy drama Better Call Saul. This upcoming series is a spinoff of the insanely popular show Breaking Bad, and will follow the trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer Saul Goodman in the period prior to his encounters with Walter White. The show is also the work of Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind Breaking Bad, and is being touted as a prequel to this much loved series. Whilst the teaser trailers released to date have been pretty promising, it will be interesting to see if the series can live up to expectations and follow in the footsteps of its predecessor.
Wolf Hall
There’s no denying that here in Britain we love a good historical drama. Luckily for us, 2015 will see the release of the much anticipated historical epic Wolf Hall, an adaptation of the novel of the same name, by acclaimed author Hilary Mantel. This new 6 part series will follow the rise of the infamous Thomas Cromwell, from his humble beginnings, to his reign as Henry VIII’s most trusted adviser. Word on the street is that the series should be a winner full of drama, intrigue and just enough historical accuracy to keep most history buffs happy. The series will also feature a pretty impressive cast too, with Damian Lewis of Homeland, taking on the role of Henry VIII. Wolf Hall will make its debut on the BBC on the 21st of January.
Marvels Daredevil
This new adaptation from the world of Marvel also shows plenty of promise. Daredevil is the story of blind lawyer turned crime fighting vigilante, Matt Murdoch, who imbued with extraordinary senses, uses these to fight injustice on the streets of New York as a masked superhero. The series certainly seems to have plenty of potential, and will reportedly have a more mature and somewhat grittier outlook than other, more recent Marvel ventures.
MaddAddam
This new post-apocalyptic show is based on a series of books, written by acclaimed science fiction writer Margaret Atwood. The series will apparently follow the story of the remaining survivors left on earth following a viral epidemic. The show is being produced by the American network HBO, which has brought us some of the best TV shows of recent times, and early indications suggest that this new series could be another winner for the show runner. As yet, few details about the series have been released, though it was recently announced that the show will be directed by Darren Aronofsky who has previously worked on projects such as Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream.
