This year, Valentine’s Day is in the middle of the week, so it might not be the right moment to celebrate the most romantic day of 2018. The weekend, on the other hand, gives you plenty of time to prepare a romantic evening, a gorgeous dinner, or a cinema evening.
This coming weekend, there will be plenty to watch on TV (or on Netflix) for all of your romantic needs! So, why not treat your partner to an amazing meal, set the atmosphere with flowers, the right music or scented candles, and put something on that your better half will love?
1. 13 Going on 30
A romantic comedy that will leave you glued to the screen from start to finish. Featuring stars like Jennifer Gardner and Mark Ruffalo, what’s not to like about a romance between two stubborn people who can’t admit their feelings for each other? Just make sure to move the furniture around and leave enough room for that famous ‘Thriller’ dance scene!
If you haven’t watched this tearjerker yet, you can easily fix that by putting it on during the weekend. This romantic and hopeful story features Hillary Swank and Gerard Butler and will, undoubtedly, pull at your heartstrings – especially as Hillary Swank’s character keeps receiving beautiful letters from her late husband from beyond the grave.
Sure, the ending is not entirely happy, but there is no denying that this movie, which has two people from opposite worlds meet and fall in love, is considered one of the most romantic films ever. A classic of forbidden love!
If you’re looking for a true romantic classic, look no further. The Notebook may also feature a ‘poor but passionate man’ and a ‘rich woman who craves freedom’ (a trope of so many romance stories!), but the way it’s handled makes it an unmissable watch.
We couldn’t leave this one out, especially as it’s a story of ‘love conquers all’. Elizabeth Bennet meets a single and Mr Darcy that places too much value on his pride and he believes she is beneath his class. Overcoming their pride and prejudice and finally allowing themselves to declare their love for each other makes for a romantic story that your partner will thank you for putting on.
Another romantic classic, this time with Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes. The movie is centred around a Senatorial candidate who falls in love with a hotel maid but thinks she’s a guest at the hotel and a socialite (as she was trying on a rich woman’s dress). When her identity is revealed, they find that they are worlds apart.
Another one of those movies that everyone should watch. Audrey Hepburn was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in this film, which is not surprising, given her stunning performance! We’re confident both you and your partner will also love her singing ‘Moon River’ and her iconic outfit.
