Bates Motel
Bates Motel has been a huge hit since it was first released in 2013, but did you know the series was a contemporary prequel and a reimagining of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 timeless classic film, Psycho? The series depicts the lives of Norman Bates and his mother Norma, before the events which are portrayed in the film, and how he became the character which he is well known for in the film.
Smallville was a hugely popular American television series which ran for 10 years from 2001 until 2011, and it was based on the DC Comics character Superman. For those who are unfamiliar with this TV series, it follows Clark Kent in the fictional town of Smallville before he becomes known as Superman, and how he gets to grips with his emerging superpowers. Smallville passed Stargate SG-1 to become the longest running North American science-fiction series.
This American black comedy-crime drama was inspired by the 1996 film of the same name written and directed by the Coen Brothers. Since its release in 2014, it has received positive acclaim and received Emmy nominations. The series follows an anthology format with each season set in a different era, with a different story, with every season sharing a common chronology with the original film. There are many huge names who have starred in the series, including Martin Freeman, Ewan McGregor, Patrick Wilson, Kirsten Dunst and Billy Bob Thornton.
Scream has become one of the most well-known and quotable slasher films since released in 1996, and it’s no surprise the film spawned three sequels. Recently, a TV revival of the classic has been created. It focuses on a town in the wake of a cyberbullying incident and murder, and it is filled with as much gore and pop culture references, just like the original films. Before his death, Scream director, Wes Craven, served as executive producer for the first season.
It has been rumoured The Lord of the Rings is to be brought to life as a television series, and this may transpire to be a reality, as Amazon has announced they have conducted the TV rights for the book series, along with a multi-season commitment. This cultural phenomenon is loved by millions around the world, and it could be a TV masterpiece if created well. Rumour has it the series will be a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, and will take fans on a new and exciting journey.
