Five of the Most Anticipated Book-to-Film Adaptations of 2016
2016 is set to be a fantastic year for film, particularly if you’re a bit of a bookworm! This year there is an exceptional amount of book adaptations still heading our way. So, if you’re quickly compiling your summer reading list, like to read-before-you-watch, and need a little bit of inspiration, look no further! Because we have a list of five of this year’s most highly anticipated book-to-film adaptations being released this summer and beyond!
The Jungle Book – Rudyard Kipling
In this retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale, Mowgli is a ‘man cub’, a human child who has been raised deep in the jungle by a pack of wolves. Throughout his life he has lived in peace with the animals around him. However, when one day his home in the jungle is threatened by fearsome tiger, Shere Kahn, Mowgli must return to where he came from, and leave the only home he’s ever known.
When? It’s already out! It was released on 15th April 2016.
Who’s in it? Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, and newcomer, Neel Sethi.
Me Before You – Jojo Moyes
Louisa is a small-town girl from a working-class family who has spent much of her life working dead-end jobs trying to provide for her close-knit family. However, when a change in circumstances leaves her unemployed, she finds herself at the home of Will Traynor, a wealthy young man left paralysed by a road accident two years prior. After she is hired by Will’s mother as a companion and caregiver for her son, the bright and optimistic Louisa quickly makes it her mission to prove to Will – who has become cynical and depressed following his accident – that life is still worth living.
When? 3rd June 2016.

The BFG – Roald Dahl
Ten-year-old Sophie is terrified when she first encounters the Big Friendly Giant. However, despite his intimidating appearance she soon learns that things aren’t always what they seem and as it turns out this giant is good, having been left an outcast by his own kind for refusing to eat little boys and girls. Together the pair embark on an adventure to try and rid England of evil man-eating giants for good.
When? 22nd July 2016.

The Girl on the Train – Paula Hawkins
Rachel (played by Emily Blunt) is a recent divorcee whose morning commute on the train allows her to peak briefly into the daily life of a young couple whose home backs onto the tracks. With each passing day Rachel becomes increasingly invested in the pair, and begins fantasising about their seemingly perfect life together. That is until she witnesses a horrible event one morning that lands her in the middle of a search for a missing person.
When? October 2016.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – J.K. Rowling
A spin-off of the Harry Potter series, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, is set some seventy years before the Harry Potter books begin and revolves around a wizard named Newt Scamander. This wizard causes havoc in the wizarding world when a number of dangerous magical creatures he had been keeping in his magically expanded briefcase manage to escape onto the streets of New York City.
When? 18th November 2016.
Who’s in it? Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), and Colin Farrell.
